چکیده

The physics of polarized nucleons has received increasing interest in the past few years, as we had the opportunity to see during the Workshop. Experimental progress in this field has been impressive, and prospect for the next future are even more interesting. A description of the present status of the field on the experimental side is given in another chapter of these Proceedings; 1 here I will concentrate on the theoretical aspects. The most important tool for studying the structure of polarized nucleons is polarized deep-inelastic scattering, and most of the work presented in our Workshop was devoted to the study of polarized structure functions; I conclude this introduction recalling a few basics concepts in this field. In Section 2, I will discuss the problem of scaling violation in polarized deep inelastic scattering, in the context of perturbation theory. In Section 3 I will review the theoretical status of the small x behaviour of polarized structure functions, and in Section 4 I will discuss the extraction of polarized parton densities. Finally, in Section 5 I present my conclusions. The antisymmetric part of the hadronic tensor, relevant for polarized deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering, is usually decomposed as

Beam normal spin asymmetry in elastic lepton-nucleon scattering

We discuss the two-photon exchange contribution to observables which involve lepton helicity flip in elastic lepton-nucleon scattering. This contribution is accessed through the spin asymmetry for a lepton beam polarized normal to the scattering plane. We estimate this beam normal spin asymmetry at large momentum transfer using a parton model and we express the corresponding amplitude in terms ...

Information obtained from nucleus as a bound system of nucleons and from nucleon-nucleon scattering experiments is a strong tool for studying various aspects of nuclear forces. Deuteron-deuteron scattering as a four-nucleon system can provide useful information. So, scattering experiment of a polarized beam of deuteron with kinetic energy of65 MeV/nucleon from a liquid-deuterium target was done...

Analysis of Data on Polarized Lepton-Nucleon Scattering

We re-analyze data on deep inelastic polarized lepton-nucleon scattering, with particular attention to testing the Bjorken sum rule and estimating the quark contributions to the nucleon spin. Since only structure function data at fixed Q can be used to test sum rules, we use E142 asymmetry measurements and unpolarized structure function data to extract g 1 at fixed Q 2 = 2 GeV. When higher-twis...

Nuclear Effects in the F3 Structure Function

Experiments on deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) of charged leptons and neutrino remains an important source of information about the nucleon as well as about the nuclear structure. DIS experiments with neutrino beams 1,2 has reached now an accuracy comparable to that of experiments with charged leptons. Note in this respect that because of statistics reasons neutrino data are collected for heavy...

Azimuthal and single spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering

We derive a general framework for describing semi-inclusive deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering in terms of the unintegrated parton distributions and other higher twist parton correlations. Such a framework provides a consistent approach to the calculation of inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections including higher twist effects. As an example, we calculate the azimuthal asymmetries to...
